South African police say more than 3,000 personnel will ensure security at the upcoming BRICS summit in Durban.
The National Police Commissioner says security forces from around the country have a collaborative and integrative security plan for the BRICS summit. She said South Africa has a good reputation for successfully hosting events of this magnitude.
It will be the first time for South Africa to host the BRICS summit since it officially became a membership of the group in 2010. The 5th BRICS summit is scheduled to open on Tuesday.
